Guide to Prince Albert Piercings

Body piercings are incredibly popular with many people around the world. In more recent years, different piercings have been popping up more and more alongside the more traditional ones. One of these more unusual piercings is the Prince Albert Piercing.

What is a Prince Albert Piercing?

The Prince Albert piercing is named for Queen Victoria’s husband Prince Albert. While it was never confirmed that he’d had one done, the rumours and theories were common enough that it became named after him. Although it’s been around for a long time, Prince Albert piercings were either a lot less common in the past, or unusual enough that people just didn’t talk about them as much due to the part of the body involved.

A Prince Albert Piercing is one placed through the bottom half of the penis. The needle passes through the urethra, and back out of the penile head. Usually this type of piercing will be designed to hold a metal ring, although when inserted the ring will often be a straight piece of metal which is then bent to create the ring.

This piercing is one of the most painful ones you can possibly have, and will usually take several weeks to heal. For most men, between two and six weeks will be enough, and during that time you’ll need to avoid sex and masturbation as much as possible. Even when fully healed, the skin around the piercing might still be irritated, so you’ll need to care for it properly for the rest of your life.

There are two variations on Prince Albert piercings. The first is a reverse Prince Albert, which is largely the same thing, but instead of coming out of the end of the penis, it passes through the urethra and out of the top of the head. The other variation is a Princess Albertina, which is effectively a Prince Albert for women. This piercing goes through the female urethra and then back out of the hood of the vagina.

Why Do People Get Prince Albert Piercings?

There are two main reasons people get a Prince Albert Piercing: Sexual Pleasure, and decoration.

In sexual activities, a Prince Albert piercing can add extra stimulation. For men, the piercing adds intense urethral stimulation to almost every type of sex. The piercing pushes on the surrounding nerves as well, which intensifies the regular feelings you experience during sexual stimulation.

The piercing also has some benefits for women. The rings tend to be quite large, so they provide extra stimulation during penetration. In a reverse Prince Albert, the ball part of the piercing is on the top, rather than the bottom of the penis. Which variant of the piercing you get will dictate which sexual positions will be most pleasurable for your partner, as your piercing is very suitable to stimulate a woman’s g-spot during intercourse.

If you aren’t just interested in the sexual benefits of a genital piercing, then you probably want to do it for the aesthetic properties. While most Prince Alberts will have a simple ring, which protrudes out of the penis, this might be enough for you. In some cases, you might be able to find specialised types of piercing ring, which might have more decorations or designs. How much you like the appearance of a is entirely personal, so if it’s for you then you’ll already know.

Jewellery Options

There are a few options for men with prince albert piercings for how they want the piercing to look when they wear it. Circular barbells are nearly closed barbells. A captive bead ring is a close ring which has a bead in the centre. A curved barbell is a curved bar with a ball on either end. You only usually see the balls while wearing this one. Prince Albert wands are penis plugs designed specifically for men who have Prince Albert Piercings. They have a rod which is inserted into the urethra, and a pin with a ball on the end which comes out of the piercing hole. These aren’t recommended for prolonged use, as they can be quite uncomfortable and cause irritation. You’ll need to find one that fits your piercing size precisely.

Caring for a Prince Albert Piercing

Throughout the rest of your life you’ll need to properly care for your Prince Albert piercing. This is largely accomplished through regular and thorough cleaning.

The main ways to clean your Prince Albert piercing are through soaks. You can either use a piercing aftercare spray, or a sea salt soak. The soak should be done twice a day, even after the piercing is fully healed. Regular hand soap should be avoided, as it can dry out the skin and irritate the area around the piercing.

Soaking with Piercing Aftercare Spray.

If you are using a piercing aftercare spray, you simply need to fill a small glass with the solution, and then submerge your penis in it. This should be done for around five minutes twice a day. Alternatively, you can soak cotton balls in the solution, then dab them onto your piercing until the entire area has been soaked for at least five minutes

Soaking with a Sea Salt Solution

If you don’t want to constantly purchase aftercare spray, you can create your own solution using water and sea salt. You need a cup of sterile water (you can either buy this from a shop or boil some tap water for five minutes), and a quarter of a teaspoon of sea salt (Aquarium salts from pet stores are the best for this). Tea tree oil can also be added to the solution, as it is a natural antiseptic and moisturiser, but this is up to you. If you add tea tree oil, you should only need two or three drops in your mixture.

This solution is applied just like a store bought one, either by submerging your penis in the mixture, or using cotton balls to soak up the mixture and apply it to the penis. You should still aim to soak the piercing for around five minutes twice a day.

Dangers of Prince Albert Piercings

Given the unusual nature of the Prince Albert piercings, it’s understandable that there are some dangers associated with it. The main one is infection. The urethra is more prone to bacteria than many other parts of your body, so both during healing and afterwards it’s incredibly important to keep the piercing clean and sterile as much as possible.

There is also a risk during regular sex. It’s very easy to get the ring caught on various things, both in and outside the body. Having something pulling on the ring is sure to be painful and maybe damaging to the penis. If you have a Prince Albert piercing it’s always a good idea to use some extra lubrication during sex, or maybe even cover it with a condom.

They take a very long time to heal, and during the healing process both masturbation and sexual intercourse can be risky, so to avoid damage or tearing you should wear a condom until fully healed. During healing there may be bleeding, swelling or inflammation. Six months is the ideal length of time for a Prince Albert Piercing to heal. Even after it’s fully healed though, you need to be careful with it and try to avoid unnecessary damage to the area.

If not cleaned properly and regularly, a Prince Albert piercing can lead to infections in the urethral tract. Even without infection, there may be some pain during urination. You might even be able to urinate out of both the holes, which can take some getting used to.

Some studies have found that the piercing can cause damage to women when worn during penetrative sex. In some cases, it has led to bleeding, and in others, female incontinence.

Complications in a prince albert piercing can lead to erection problems, urinary tract infections, or even a greater risk of sexually transmitted infections.

If You Want a Prince Albert Piercing…

Make sure you find a reputable piercing person. This type of piercing is one of the most difficult to do correctly, and there is great risk of permanent damage if done incorrectly. You should also bear in mind that this piercing will probably be the most expensive type of piercing you can get, so if you see someone doing it cheap you have to wonder why.

If you’re already sold on getting a Prince Albert piercing then good luck! If not, you might find that talking to people who’ve had it done might be useful. I know it’s a difficult topic to bring up, but with the internet there are plenty of places you can ask questions without being embarrassed. Finding out information before you get it done is always good because you don’t want to end up regretting your decision.
